Couchsurfing Anniversary

#b_100_couchsurfing

After three and a half years, I finally reached the magical number of 100 positive references on Couchsurfing and I think this deserves a small news to gather my previous write-ups on the topic. Give it a read in case you are interested and haven’t heard about it yet!

Couchsurfing is much more than just a free accommodation during your travels, it’s all about meeting people and getting to know their culture and personalities. I actually wrote an article for the Huffington Post in October last year and I think it will give you a better idea of how the system works, so give it a read by clicking on the following picture:

Since I signed up for Couchsurfing on the 28th of September, 2009, I made a lot of great experiences and was never ever disappointed once. From my first ever Couch on a kitchen floor in Barcelona, to a journey through the Island Majorca and it’s hidden gems, and finally on a three week trip through East Europe to Russia (still need to write about this one!); I can really say that I’ve made a lot of unique encounters during my trips.

Having a profile with these references also seems to make it a lot easier to find couches! Yesterday, I was starting to look for places to stay in Edinburgh for the start of the 16-day wild camping trip in the Scottish Highlands for a total of seven people and I actually got two invitations after just ten minutes! I actually have to finish up this post now since I still did not pack all of my gear for this trip and my bus to the airport leaves in 11 hours from now🙂

I’m looking forward to the next years on Couchsurfing, even though the new Layout of their websites really makes it a bit hard and unpleasant to use it, but the advantages still outweight this issue by far. The next big Couchsurfing trip will be my two month journey to South America in July and August this year and I already can’t wait🙂 See you around, I will try to update my Blog during the trip in Scotland every 3 or 4 days depending on Internet availability.
